The Trump administration filed an emergency request in the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday asking the court to stay pending appeal the district court’s preliminary injunction blocking the removal of Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook. The administration requested that the Court act “by the close of business on Monday,” before the Federal Open Market Committee’s meeting on Tuesday to determine whether to change interest rates. The First Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday stayed a preliminary injunction which blocked the federal government from “enforcing, retroactively enforcing, or otherwise applying” a provision within the “One Big Beautiful Bill” that prohibits Medicaid funding to certain abortion providers. The First Circuit Court of Appeals on Thursday denied the government’s motion to stay a preliminary injunction blocking the implementation of President Trump’s executive order directing the closure of the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services, Minority Business Development Agency, and the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service. Pending Interim Order Applications Involving the U.S. Government in the Supreme Court
Department of State v. AIDS Vaccine Advocacy Coalition: The government filed an emergency application on September 8 requesting the Supreme Court partially stay a district court injunction ordering the Trump administration to spend $4 billion in funds by September 30. The Supreme Court granted the government’s request for a partial stay pending further order of the Court and ordered a response to the government’s application on or before September 12th.
Trump v. Slaughter: The government filed an emergency application on September 4 requesting the Supreme Court stay a district court decision to allow the firing of FTC Commissioner Rebecca Slaughter to proceed. The Supreme Court granted the government’s request for an administrative stay and ordered a response to the government’s application on or before September 15th.
